Ademola Alalade, a House of Representatives hopeful and leading aspirant for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, has expressed strong disagreement with the recent proposal by Olisa Agbakoba, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, calling for a National Constitutional Conference as a solution to Nigeria’s entrenched challenges.

In his reaction, Alalade acknowledged the value of dialogue but cautioned against over-reliance on conferences. “While a national confab can foster dialogue, it is not a magic bullet,” he asserted, emphasizing that the root of Nigeria’s problems lies not in the absence of dialogue, but in the lack of genuine leadership.

Alalade stressed that what the country needs urgently is sincere and accountable leadership—leaders who prioritize service above self, implement policies transparently, and uphold the rule of law. He warned that another round of high-level debates, without a real commitment to implementation, could further erode public trust and deepen national disunity.

He further argued that ethical governance, institutional strengthening, and inclusive development are the true catalysts of sustainable reform. According to him, “The absence of authentically committed leaders means that even the best ideas on paper will fail to translate into real change.”

Alalade concluded by urging Nigerians to shift focus from rhetoric to results. “It is time for Nigerians to demand tangible action—not just talk—by holding every officeholder accountable to their promises,” he said.
