Alalade Disagrees with Gov. Makinde’s Six-Year Single Term Proposal for Elected Officials

Ace Broadcaster and a frontline aspirant for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat, Ademola Alalade,has expressed strong reservations about Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent advocacy for a six-year single term for all elected public officials in Nigeria.

Speaking on the matter, Alalade noted that while the call for electoral reform is important, the focus should be on performance, accountability, and strengthening democratic institutions rather than altering tenure length. According to him, a longer single term may reduce responsiveness to citizens and weaken electoral accountability.

He emphasized that what Nigeria needs is not necessarily a new tenure structure but a system that enforces transparency, evaluates performance, and ensures leaders remain answerable to the electorate.
