The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North Federal Constituency is facing a tough decision in selecting its candidate for the forthcoming House of Representatives by-election, as internal disagreements among aspirants deepen.

Out of the 20 initial aspirants who showed interest in the ticket, 10 reportedly purchased nomination forms in defiance of the party’s earlier advisory for restraint and internal consultations. Meanwhile, only 3 aspirants have genuinely stepped down in the spirit of party supremacy and unity.

Complicating matters, five aspirants allegedly failed to honour the party’s invitation to a crucial meeting held in Abuja to deliberate on the way forward. Even more surprising, two aspirants have reportedly withdrawn entirely without explanation, leaving party leaders and stakeholders in confusion.

With the situation increasingly tense, party loyalists are calling for the leadership to prioritize integrity and loyalty by choosing a candidate from among those who respected the party’s principles and process.

Observers say the outcome of the APC’s decision will either strengthen its internal discipline or deepen factional tensions ahead of the bye-election.
